About Williamsburg Community Preschool
Williamsburg Community Preschool (WCP) is a private, non-profit preschool that participates in the Iowa Quality Preschool Programming Standards for excellence in early childhood education. We have proven and must maintain state criteria to receive funding that allows us to offer programming free of charge to 4 year old students.
We strive to instill, encourage and further a love of learning while providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of the children we serve.
WCP was established in 1972 and is licensed by the Iowa Department of Human Services. We are managed by a parent board of directors. WCP offers programming for both 3 year olds (Junior Preschool) and 4 year olds (Senior Preschool). We are currently located in the Williamsburg Rec Center.

Senior Preschool Program
We see our role as teachers to be one of facilitators, providing a rich environment and guiding children through many different experiences, allowing them to discover and learn. We believe children learn by doing things for themselves (touching, feeling, seeing, trying, experimenting and exploring). Our hands-on learning model for 3s introduces shapes, numbers and letters. We work on establishing pencil and scissor grips and basic math and science concepts. Our main focus is the social/emotional development of these young students by modeling appropriate behavior in a warm, loving and secure environment through listening, accepting and being consistent in our relationships with all children.
Per the Voluntary Preschool grant, WCP utilizes The Creative Curriculum, a research based tool that promotes growth in the following areas: Social/Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies and the Arts. We believe that children need to repeat activities to completely understand a concept or acquire a skill. We believe that children need lots of real life experiences (field trips, guest speakers, etc.) and that they learn by making choices and mistakes. We strive to help all children be “Kindergarten Ready” by offering meaningful activities that relate to their lives, taking into account the individual developmental level that student has mastered.
